NSO is excited to announce an opportunity for its members to actively contribute to the growth and development of our organization. The NSO New Unit Organizing/Affiliation Committee is now accepting applications for committee members.
The New Unit Organizing/Affiliation Committee plays a crucial role in the expansion and affiliations of NSO by researching and identifying new organizing and affiliation opportunities. Committee members will engage in research and analysis of the current landscape, assess the feasibility and commitment required for potential new units, and draft recommendations for organizing or affiliating with these units. These recommendations will then be presented to the NSO Executive Committee for further action.
“We are looking for passionate individuals with diverse experiences,” says Colleen O’Connell (NEASO), co-chair of the NSO New Unit Organizing/Affiliation Committee. “If you have a background in private sector unit formation, data collection and analysis for organizing, or developing organizing campaigns from scratch, we encourage you to apply. However, we also welcome applicants with similar relevant experiences.”
Committee members are expected to attend 1-2 committee meetings per year, which typically involve 2-day sessions plus travel days. In addition to meetings, members will be engaged in “off-line” work between official committee sessions, collaborate with Local Affiliates and Region Directors to gather necessary information, and be open to acquiring new skills as required.
Will Klatt (Ohio PSU), co-chair of the committee, adds, “This is an incredible opportunity to collaborate with our union siblings from across the country, working collectively in the best interests of our members. We encourage all interested NSO members to reach out and join us in this rewarding endeavor.”
If you are interested in serving on the NSO New Unit Organizing/Affiliation Committee, please contact committee co-chairs, Colleen O’Connell (colleen.m.oconnell@gmail.com) and Will Klatt (will.b.klatt@gmail.com) via email. Be sure to include your name, Local Affiliate, and a brief statement highlighting your interest and relevant skills. The deadline to apply is September 12.
