The Virginia Professional Staff Association (VPSA) is calling for sanctions against the Virginia Education Association (VEA). The Virginia Education Association has engaged in a pattern of intimidation and escalation of bargaining proposals in the current round of bargaining. Additionally, VEA issued a “last package offer” to the VPSA bargaining team on 2/10/18 more than 6 months before the expiration of the current CBA.

According to NSO sanction procedure VPSA is requesting that all job postings, including the Executive Director position, be sanctioned by NSO. We also request that NSO and its affiliates boycott all support, training, or assistance requested by VEA. Lastly, we ask that NSO forward the sanction information to all affiliates so that it can be timely distributed prior to the opening of any positions within VEA.

Jay Deck, VPSA Bargaining Chair said “The VPSA bargaining team came to the table in good faith ready to bargain a fair contract for all involved and we are deeply disturbed that VEA has engaged in intimidation tactics and walked away from the table with six months left to work on the contract.”

“We support this call for sanctions. It’s a blatant disregard for the hard work of our VPSA members. VPSA’s bargaining team came to the table ready to bargain and the actions of VEA management show otherwise. The sanctions will remain in effect until management does the right thing by its staff,” said NSO President Brad Darjean.
